Well! After a lot of work tooling around with different CMS options (joomla, wordpress, drupal, EE etc), I have decided to use WP for my personal blog. Also – this is my first webpage to be hosted on my new VPS. The first step in my migration from HostPapa who have been giving me dismally poor performance since early January (and my contract is up in May).
Wait, let me back up a second.. the big thing isn’t those items – it is that I have actually decided to continue on with the idea of a blog for myself. I have toyed with the concept for several years and have several frankenblogs/ablortions out there that were never really started or completed or continued in any sense. charl13dontsurf is my first concerted effort into getting some of my thoughts, experiences and opinions down in a medium that can be shared with the public at large.
So, why Word Press? I have quite a bit of experience with Joomla 1.5x from one of my projects (http://www.guelphkayakclub.ca) and Drupal in another in website that is in progress. To make my decision, I had to look at what my intentions and longer terms goals were. This involved some digging around and getting opinions…

The main focus is getting everything I’m doing on to the net so I can keep track of myself as well as refer back to things I have figured out… saving some time digging through e-mails or the trash heap I call my file storage. So realistically I am not going to need the broad scope that Joomla and Drupal provide as I am going to be the sole contributor on the blog. This was the first push towards WP – which is tailored for the single author blogging style that I wanted. Secondly, WP seems to be the front running in terms of getting quality modules and plug-ins. Joomla does have some amazing stuff, though it has an equal share of crap. Drupal is the same. Finally.. it has to be simple as pie to administrate and modify. After playing around with my first installation I was sold. So here we are!
Welcome to it.
